You'll be amazed at what our terraces can do for your home; they'll transform a regular lawn and garden into an irresistible place that you'll love to pass the time in and around. Whether you just want to create more space for your flowers, need to convert a small or unsightly yard into something to be proud of, or want to build a cozy place to spend time with your friends and family, we've got the solution for you. The bricks used to build retaining walls come in all shapes and sizes, and the walls can be constructed to just about any specification, so no matter what you've got in mind you're bound to be thrilled with the possibilities.

What are retaining walls used for? Basically they're used to manage the space in your lawn or yard, letting you build up and dig out specific areas to divide space artistically, create more room for your plants or create outdoor sitting areas, fire pits and more. The possibilities with these structures are virtually limitless, but before you start thinking about what you can do with your lawn, why not learn a little more.

How do they work?
Retaining walls are composed of many individual concrete bricks that come in an array of styles; they all have one thing in common, though. Each brick has a lip on its back edge so that it cannot stack directly on top of another brick, but instead sits on top but shifted just a little ways back. The way the bricks are stacked because of this lip means two things. First, these walls cannot be built straight up and down, but instead must graduate slowly away from the front facing side of the wall with each additional layer. Second, the walls do not need any grout or mortar to keep them in place because each lip grips the layer of brick beneath it and keeps the brick itself from sliding forward. Soil is packed on top of and behind retaining walls to create terraces where you can either grow flowers and other plants, or use brick pavers to create attractive surfaces. The key to these walls' strength is that the soil packed behind the wall exerts pressure on the bricks, causing each brick's lip to grip the brick beneath it even tighter.

Making the most of your yard
Retaining walls are a great way to take control of your yard. Whether your home has awkward, unusable space from being built on a hill, or has a big, flat, boring yard, terraces are the way to fix the problem. Ask our experts to help you decide on the solution that's right for you. With a little time and effort, you can turn your yard into the perfect space for whatever it is your heart desires.

Turn your space into a place
Retaining walls are an excellent and attractive way to build beautiful, cozy decks and enclosed areas in your yard. Many people build outdoor recreation and relaxation areas with a combination of paved brick surfaces, built up walls, and flower and vegetable beds created with terraces. With a few additions like a fireplace and the right outdoor furniture, you can imagine the possibilities. Whether it's a great spot for a family dinner, a perfect place for you and your friends to get together, or just a relaxing area to spend time with the people you love, retaining walls can help you build the perfect ambiance right in your own back yard.
